TBDSSAB invites organizations to apply to the 2021 CHPI Food Security Fund

January 8, 2020 – The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is pleased to announce the 2021 call for applications from organizations for the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiatives (CHPI) Food Security Fund.

CHPI supports the province’s goal to end chronic homelessness by 2025, and to establish creative and innovative approaches to homelessness that align with TBDSSAB’s housing and homelessness plan. The CHPI Food Security Fund is an initiative under the CHPI fund that aims to provide financial support to food security initiatives in the District of Thunder Bay that help address and prevent homelessness.

“In 2020, the CHPI Food Security Fund totalled $350,194 distributed among 11 programs throughout the District of Thunder Bay,” says Lucy Kloosterhuis, Board Chair, TBDSSAB. “We are pleased to be able to offer this funding opportunity again in 2021.”

“Food insecurity puts individuals at higher risk of homelessness by forcing them to choose between food on the table or a roof over their head,” says Bill Bradica, CAO, TBDSSAB. “The CHPI Food Security fund will support programs that address food insecurity through food banks, hampers, meal programs and other means.”

“Many organizations in the district have stepped up to help alleviate food insecurity,” says Ken Ranta, Director, Integrated Social Services, TBDSSAB. “We hope to see applications come in for the CHPI Food Security Fund to support or expand existing programs, as well as ideas for new initiatives that can support our community.”

Organizations are invited to apply for eligible food security initiatives by January 31, 2021.

Update: Applications to the 2021 CHPI Food Security Fund are now closed.
