Media Release: TBDSSAB Celebrates 25 Years
April 18, 2024 – The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is celebrating its 25-year anniversary as an organization.
Staff, Board members, and community partners gathered this afternoon at TBDSSAB’s Thunder Bay office for cake, refreshments, and a chance to reflect on the past 25 years.
TBDSSAB was formed by the province of Ontario in 1999 through the District Social Services Administration Boards Act (O. Reg. 37/99, s. 6). Throughout Ontario, a combined total of 47 Consolidated Municipal Service Managers (CMSMs) and District Social Services Administration Boards (DSSABs) were created to administer provincially funded programs including Ontario Works, child care, and community housing. TBDSSAB’s programs included delivery of social assistance in 1999, with responsibility for the child care service system transferred in 2000, followed by responsibility for community housing in 2001. More recently, in 2019, the province added responsibility for EarlyON programs to the Child Care service system portfolio.
