The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) provides Ontario Works Programs to help people in need and to gain independence through paid employment.

The Ontario Works Program has two parts. It provides:

1. Financial Assistance:

Short-term assistance to individuals and families for basic needs, shelter, and emergency assistance.

People who qualify for assistance may also be eligible to receive benefits.  Examples of some benefits include: prescription drug coverage, dental and vision care for dependent children, diabetic supplies, surgical supplies and dressings, medical transportation costs, Transition Child Benefit and Extended Health Benefits, dental, and employment related expenses.

How to Apply to Ontario Works

2. Employment Assistance:

Support and assistance to help Ontario Works Program participants to meet their responsibilities and become self-sufficient.  Areas of support include help seeking employment, basic education, volunteer work or self-employment.
